Adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities have a variety of options when it comes time to leave the nest or make a change in current living arrangements. TLC Supported Living Services is not your typical Supported Living Services vendor, It is run by parents of an Intellectually Challenged 40 year old daughter. Julie and Bernie Chadwick have first hand experience in the challenges many individuals and their families face when finding the right services and supports to meet their unique needs.

In 1997 they founded Special Friends Foundation, a non-profit organization that has two adult group homes. Both homes are spacious 8 bed 5 bath custom homes in Poway. Julie, Bernie and family were the live-in house parents for one of the homes, for 16 years, Julie was the Administrator.

TLC’s Coordinator, Britni Chadwick and her husband (Julie & Bernie’s son) Ben Chadwick were the live-in house parents in the women’s group home for 9 years and for 6 of those years they raised their daughter Sophie alongside the women in the home who remain an integral part of their lives.

After 9 years of living in one of the Special Friends Foundation group homes, Julie and Bernie’s daughter decided she no longer wanted to live in the girl’s group home, and this is how TLC Supported Living was created. They recognized the need to create a program that is tailored to support each individual in such a way that group homes are unable to provide. Individual supports, custom training, and person centered planning are the core of TLC Supported Living Services.

Being part of the Special Needs community in Poway for over 20 years our connections are broad and our participation and awareness in the variety of social and recreational opportunities allows us to provide enriching activities that can meet the needs of everyone.

We assist each person in creating a Circle of Support including family, friends, Day Program staff and San Diego Regional Center Service Coordinators so each person is happy and safe at home.
